Why is visualization such a powerful tool?

Visualization. It is a powerful tool.

Last week we talked about the first step to use in visualization when you are struggling to believe that you can do the thing you are visualizing.

You may want to go back and read it if you haven’t.

But once you have mastered visualizing a person you admire doing the gymnastics skill or hitting in competition, it is time to move yourself into the picture.

You can being by noticing all the things you have in common with the person you admire.

And then move into visualizing yourself doing the skill or hitting in competition from the perspective of a watcher.

Watch yourself do it from the stands.

If your brain is rebelling, remind it that it is in imagination world.

You are just pretending.

So you are going to pretend that you can do the skill perfectly.

Or that you hit your routine.

Keep working on that until it feels real.

Then move to imagining that you are doing it.

See the gym around you.

Smell the chalk.

Hear the sounds of kids working out, floor music playing.

Pretend you are a gopro and see the views from inside looking out as you perform.

These two different views of visualization worked on together will create a powerful experience for your brain.

And when you go to work on the skill or you get to the competition, your brain will say, “Oh, I know this. We have done this tons of times already.”

And it will feel confident and prepared.

Ready to give it a try?
